At first Chizuru was content just to rest her head on the mound of blankets, but her neck soon began to ache, and she turned her head to rest the other side of her face on the blanket. Her eyes were closed, using the remnants of Okita's scent to imagine him there...still and peaceful, a stark contrast to the pandemonium that was outside.
She made a soft, contented sigh, a pleasant hum rising from her throat as she curled up closer into the blankets. They needed to be washed, sure, but if she did that now, when would she have a chance to do this again..?
Her eyes slowly opened to peer at the lumpy pillow that still rested at the head of the bed, but she didn't have a chance to when she saw a sight in the far corner of her field of view that seemed strangely out-of-place.
The door was open..! Did she leave it open by mistake?!
"O--!!" She couldn't even get past the first syllable at first. "Oki--!!" She became painfully aware of the blankets gathered up in her arms, and she outstretched them as though ready to take flight, letting them fall in a graceless heap at her knees. "I...I was just--!"
